Welcome to my depository of random thoughts and strangeness that I stumble upon every so often.

"Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through."

Something worthy of a Sad Keanu

Sad Keanu

Obviously there’s some sort of Hollywood machination here that thinks this is a good idea. Clearly it’s about the money, and not preserving one of the best action movies ever made. I’m not jumping on the bandwagon that Point Break should be considered “sacred” by any means, but this really seems like lazy filmmaking.

Why “reboot” a movie like Point Break, when there are plenty of other franchises stealing using the successful high-intensity action formula? I hope this one just sits on the shelf leaving fans to wait for the next 50-year storm.

I was never a toprope climber, but watching videos about Yosemite are awe-inspiring. What an incredible feeling it must be to spend a few days on the side of a rock.

A Revenge Plot So Intricate, the Prosecutors Were Pawns - NYTimes.com

How far will one person go to maliciously destroy the life of another person? This almost sounds like a Hollywood movie!

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn’t help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we’ve got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without conditions and then admit that we just don’t want to do it."

Can a Playground Be Too Safe? - NYTimes.com

I sometimes wish for the “classic” playground equipment for the kids to play on. The benefits of a little bit of risk and conquer outweighs some of the scrapes and bruises along the way.

While watching the fireworks this past Independence Day, my 5-year-old daughter had a revelation that people must be behind the magic. Sometimes I wish I could return to the same sense of wonder.
